About Us
The Nekomi (猫美) brand incorporates our original Japanese family crest, also known as mon (紋) or kamon (家紋). Our emblem integrates the Japanese cherry blossom (sakura) surrounded by ginkgo leaves. Our original design represents a new era without the ties of war. We must stick together as a family to support Mother Nature in her most crucial moment in life.
Background of the Mon
The mon originated back to the eleventh century, where original family emblems were used to symbolize each family names. From the end of the 12th century to the 15th century, warriors used family crests in the battlefield to identify opposing factions. It was during the Edo Period (17th century), where there were no more wars, that the family crests became more of an ornamental emblem used by Japanese families on formal costumes and other decorative purposes.
