Our Sustainable Mindset

At Nekomi, we want to produce quality apparel without the cost of having the devastating environmental impact, such as from fast fashion companies. Countries that have cheap labor and low regulations are the biggest offenders to the environment and human rights, thus we have a strong USA centralized production.

A Greener Checkout

5% of every purchase will fund an ongoing project in Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)

We purchase the amount of carbon offsets or Renewable Energy Credits needed to make your order carbon neutral.

Default organization we will be supporting with each transaction is the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

Nekomi has also partnered with Ecologi to donate to reforestation projects by planting one tree for each product bought.

Greener Dying and Drying Process

All of our garments are dyed and cut locally in the USA, reducing transportation emissions and ensuring that practices are held to the highest standard of EPA regulations. This decision ensures that we meet the highest level of ethical standards. For environmental and human friendly reason, our products are only made when you order them.

Industry tees use biomass to power steam boilers in their dying process: this means that sugar cane, palm oil waste, or trees are burned to create steam - causing deforestation in the process. Our garments use an eco-friendly energy exchange to power steam (used to heat the dye machine) in our dying process:

  1. Air is collected from the dryers and is piped into a thermal oxidizer
  2. Oils from dyes that are remaining in the air are burned to create energy
  3. That energy is captured in a boiler to create steam

We also collect and reuse the energy, created by drying fabric, to dye more fabric.

Digital Printing
Our digital prints are made from inks that are non-toxic, non-hazardous (free from formaldehyde and alkylphenol ethoxylates), free of heavy metals, vegan friendly (no animals harmed or animal by-products), organic (meeting gots-3v standards), and are easily returned to the earth.

Reducing Wastewater Consumption

Any wastewater generated from our facilities go to a water reclamation plant, abiding to EPA's strict oversight and regulation to ensure no harmful chemicals are released back into our ecosystem.

We're using efficient dye machines that use seven times less water than the average for clothing manufacturers, saving about 24 million gallons of water each week. In addition the water used goes through a filtration system that allows it to be recycled.

Social and Environmental Responsibility

Our partner facilities are committed to maintaining and upholding responsible workplace and environmental standards. Our factories are annually inspected by WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production) and are WRAP certified.

WRAP is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the certification of lawful, humane and ethical manufacturing throughout the world. The WRAP Certification looks at the principles of human resource management, health and safety standards, environmental and eco-friendly practices, and legal compliance (ie. import/export, customs compliance and security standards)

These are the current environmental standards at Nekomi, but we continue to search for more sustainable practices that we can incorporate into our company.
